Breast Implants
Every year, hundreds of thousands of women, unhappy with the size of their breasts, decide to have breast implants. An increasingly popular surgery, breast enlargement does have its drawbacks, but many women are pleased with the results of having breast implants.
Silicone Breast Implants
After a great deal of negative press recently, silicone breast implants have become popular again. Their composition has been altered to alleviate the risks that came to light, and many women prefer silicone breast implants because they feel and look more like natural breasts.
Saline Breast Implants
Saline breast implants are another popular choice. While saline implants have a different feel than silicone implants, many people feel they're safer. When a saline breast implant leaks, it's usually easy to tell because the saline leaks out quickly and is absorbed into the system. Silicone breast implants can rupture with very few symptoms, making it difficult to tell if there is a problem.
Cost of Breast Implants
Breast implants are quite costly. No two surgeons will charge the same amount, but the cost of the facility, the surgeon, medications, and anesthesia must be taken into account. The total tally usually lands in the three to four thousand dollar range. This cost will increase if you're not happy with your results and require revision surgery.
Breast Implant Sizes
Breast implants come in a variety of sizes. When considering breast implant sizes, though, you must take into consideration that they aren't measured by cup size. Breast implants are sized according to the amount of filler inside them, whether saline or silicone.
In addition, no single implant will create a cup size increase in every woman. Your surgeon will choose the size of your implant based on your body size, body shape, and the elasticity of your skin, in order to give you the exact results you wish to achieve.
Huge Breast Implants
While some women desire the dramatic transformation of an extra large breast implant, huge breast implants have their disadvantages. Huge breast implants are more likely to cause capsular contracture, and often have an unnatural look that women are unhappy with.
Many plastic surgeons won't use huge breast implants, especially with women who have naturally small breasts, because there isn't enough skin tissue to adequately cover the implants. If you choose to have huge breast implants, be sure to discuss the disadvantages at length with your surgeon.
Adjustable Breast Implants
Sometimes it's hard to know exactly what size breast implants will work best for you. Now there are breast implants that can be adjusted up to six months after you have your surgery. A fill tube is left attached to the implant, through which additional saline can be added, or saline can be removed. Once you are satisfied with the size of your implants, the fill tube is removed in a simple office visit.
With advancing technology, there are many options available for women who choose breast implants. Ask your cosmetic surgeon what options are best for you.
